I have always been fascinated by the whirling dervishes. Although until recently, I did not really understand or know much about them, except that they wore these long flowing white garments and turned round and round. But, there was something in the turning, that revolving, that appealed to me.
This series contains various whirling dervishes, almost all in the midst of the Sema. According to Mevlana.net, the Sema "ceremony represents a mystical journey of man's spiritual ascent through mind and love to 'Perfect.' Turning towards the truth, his growth through love, deserts his ego, finds the truth and arrives to the 'Perfect,' then he returns from this spiritual journey as a man who has reached maturity and a greater perfection, so as to love and to be of service to the whole of creation, to all creatures without discrimination of believe, races, classes and nations."
